The Association

Kaitaia and District Kindergarten Association, now known as Kindergartens Far North, was established as an Incorporated Society in December 1956, coinciding with the official opening of Anne West Kindergarten, in response to a growing demand for early childhood education centres in a rapidly expanding population in the very Far North. The Association is now a registered Charity.

Our Association rohe is bounded by Maungataniwha in the south, the Tasman Sea, and Pacific Ocean to the west and east and Te Rerenga Wairua in the north.

Kaitaia is the major town and service centre for this area. Large companies in Kaitaia support Horticulture and Forestry which are growing industries. In spite of some recent improvement in roading some communities remain isolated.

The Board

Parents and caregivers of children attending our Kindergartens are members of Kindergartens Far North and they elect a Governing Board annually at the AGM. The Board is responsible for the Strategic direction of Kindergartens Far North and reviews the five year Strategic Plan on an annual basis.

The Board employs a Manager, responsible for preparation and management of an Annual Plan emanating from the Strategic direction, and the day-to-day operation of our three Kindergartens. This is to ensure our Kindergartens are well maintained and resourced and teaching and ancillary staff are optimally supported in their work.

A dedicated Senior Teacher is responsible for the professional leadership of, and guidance for the teaching teams.

Kindergarten Communities

Each kindergarten community comprising whānau of children attending kindergarten supports the teachers in their work, assisting with fund raising events and are involved in Kindergarten celebrations. These whānau and parents also contribute positively to the Kindergarten profile in the community.

20 Hours ECE

20 Hours ECE (Early Childhood Education) is available to all three and four year olds for up to 6 hours per day or 20 hours per week. There is no charge for two year olds providing they will be using their 20 hours ECE at Kindergarten once they turn three.

There are no fees for children using all 20 hours ECE at our Kindergartens for up to and including 30 hours per week.

We also have extended hours at two Kindergartens for those parents requiring after session care for their children. Fees will apply.
