About Kaitaia and District Kindergarten Association Inc.
The Association
Kaitaia and District Kindergarten Association was established as an Incorporated Society in December 1956, coinciding with the opening of Anne West Kindergarten, in response to a growing demand for early childhood education centres in a rapidly expanding population in the very Far North.
Kaitaia is the service centre for a rural district stretching from Cape Reinga in the North to Mitimiti in the southwest and Oruaiti in the southeast. Roading is poor in some areas and some small communities are very isolated.
The population is thinly spread in the area outlying Kaitaia township but there is a rapidly growing population in the Doubtless Bay area. Farming, horticulture and forestry are economic growth areas and many industries support these. The Board
Governance of the Association is vested in a Board elected by the family membership of the Association. The Board employs a Manager, responsible for the day-to-day operation of our three kindergartens. Our Senior Teacher provides professional support and guidance to the teaching staff.
Kindergarten Parent Groups
Each kindergarten annually elects a parent group made up of interested parents of children currently attending kindergarten. These groups are charged with supporting the teachers in the day-to-day operation of the kindergarten and are the 'voice' of the community for kindergarten.
20 Hours ECE
Our Kindergartens offer the Government’s Free ECE initiative, 20 hours ECE, in order to make Kindergarten accessible and affordable for all families.
20 Hours ECE is available to all three and four year olds for up to 6 hours per day or 20 hours per week. These hours may be used at an early childhood centre of your choice and may be shared between centres. For hours beyond 20 per week you are charged a small fee which enables the Association to provide top quality in the programmes it offers your children. There is no charge for two year olds providing they will be using their 20 Hours ECE at Kindergarten once they turn three. For children attesting 20 hours at any of our Kindergartens, a further 4 hours per week are "free" from February 2010.
For further information please contact a Kindergarten near you.
Hours
Our kindergartens operate under 'all day' licenses, 6 hours per day Monday to Thursday and 4 ¼ hours on Friday. You can use as many or as few of these hours as you choose. Please contact your nearest Kindergarten to enrol your child or download the pdf enrolment form and take the completed form to your Kindergarten of choice.
